Every bride wants beautiful skin on her wedding day. Here are a few tips I can share to ensure you have the best skin possible as you take a walk down the aisle...
Cleanse, Tone, and Moisturize DAILY (Start now!) - The typical renewal cycle for your skin is 30-45 days. If you want see the full benefits of a particular skincare regimen, you will want to try it out for at least a month to find out what it's truly doing beneath the surface. The more time you have, the better, to find products that are best-suited for your skin's particular needs. Most importantly, in case of sensitivity, do NOT try any new beauty product(s) in the weeks prior to your wedding. Definitely not a good time to try that beauty product you've been waiting to try.. you know, the one your friend told you about, made from that special water from the mountain top in some far off land (I think you get the picture!).
Exfoliate! It's not just your 'grandma's apricot scrub' these days when it comes to selecting an exfoliator for your skin. The choices can be dizzying.... on the market, you can find everything from gentle micro-granular scrubs at home, microdermabrasion, even topical exfoliating treatments such as glycolic acid, and creams that contain low doses of Retin. That said, I have to share my personal fave: The $3 facial brush I purchased from my local beauty supply store (just a dab of your cleanser, gently scrub in a circular motion and 'viola', beautifully exfoliated skin!) Word to the wise... don't forget your lips! You lip color will lay flawless and look perfectly kissable on your wedding day if you don't forget this step. A homemade lip scrub can be made out of ingredients already in your own pantry: mix equal parts of honey and sugar, rub it over your lips in a circular motion, then remove with a clean damp cloth. Remember, you makeup will only look as good as the skin that is underneath.
Stay hydrated. For all skin types, the 'beautifying benefits' of staying hydrated are pretty well known. What some people fail to realize is that drinking water excessively can actually have the reverse effect resulting in dehydration. If you're big on water, try adding a daily drink that includes electrolytes; this will keep the proper salt balance in your system. For extremely dry dull skin, fish oil supplements are also great for hydrating the skin from the inside.
Consult a professional. For problematic skin, there could be something else going on, something beyond what can be treated by over-the-counter skin care and hydration. Hormones, nutritional imbalance, and/or food allergies can play a part in the way our skin looks and feels. There are a variety of professionals such as dermatologists, naturopaths or nutritional counselors who can help pinpoint what may be the underlying cause of any persistent skin issues.
Don't sweat the small stuff. Still have less than perfect skin on your wedding day? That's where I come in! As a makeup artist, most of us in our profession have learned the tricks of the trade to make less than perfect skin appear flawless. www.iloveblush.com
